Here I will outline FBO's that we visit and which one's I'd recommend. Admittedly, as a supporter of general aviation, I appreciate any and all FBO's and don't want to discourage those in small towns who have to make do with what they have available. They make it possible for us to travel where we otherwise would not be able to go. But some go above and beyond, and I'd like to highlight those here.
- Springfield, Missouri- the FBO was clean and well presented, with nice facilities, friendly staff, and they took care of all the details for our rental car, including even having it ready and waiting for us!
- Joplin, Missouri- the FBO is small but very nice, with conference rooms and public areas and three late-model, nice, clean, air conditioned courtesy cars available for pilots to use. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The fuel prices are reasonable.
- Hays, Kansas- this FBO is attached to the terminal for the commercial airlines. The staff was very helpful and the facility had additional space due to their connection to the commercial customers. They did provide a courtesy car, but they only had one, so it is very much first-come, first-serve, and they prefer that you limit the time you have it out.
- Dodge City, Kansas- Crotts Aircraft Service is separate from the main terminal, but is a nice facility. A little older building, but with a good sized lounge area. They did have a courtesy car available, but as another pilot had come in just before us and was only staying for lunch, while we were planning on staying the day, we also had the option of renting a nice car for the day.
